It's all about how acne and diet ARE connected.

At the very least eliminate dairy as a first step toward improving acne. Then maximize fish oil intake, maximize your antioxidant intake, drink green tea, and consider supplementing with the nutrients discussed — zinc, chromium, and selenium.
They also talk about how a high protein diet and tomatoes are beneficial for acne.

In my conclusion, a healthy bodybuilding diet is perfect for acne. I have seen the results for myself.

Good article apart from the 'less saturated fat' bit and advising the use of canola oil for cooking.

Yes thats exactly what I thought. Cook only with olive oil.

Cutting wheat and dairy made a huge difference in my breakout rate. I used to eat as many as 20 weet-bix a day to try and gain weight. Very Bad move.

Ha and I wondered why I had the worst acne ever!
I'm talking puss bombs that spray onto the mirror and actually stunk of bacteria!! Yuck.

Can anyone suggest a specific multivitamin that contains zinc, chromium, and selenium?

Most multivitamins contain all 3.

Centrum performance for example, or if you're after something a bit more natural and easier on your stomach, you can look into drfuhrman's as well.

I wouldn't say it's bad...get a pimple (white head) every couple weeks. Had minor break outs as a teen.. I'm just interested in anti-oxidants, but figured if I can get other benefits from a multi,,,why not?

Everyone should be on a multi IMO. Get an expensive one ie. one with a dosage of 2 or more a day.

Yeah diet does make a difference. You know what I have noticed too that when I wear sunscreen I get a lot less acne. I think it helps a lot.

Anyone that has moderate to bad acne, and is NOT drinking heavily and or taking steroids. I reccommend Accutane (Isotrentinion) Take it for 4months straight, and it will not help your acne, it CURES it. You can pick some up without a scrip at chemoneresearch.com

+1 to Accutane. I had terrible acne for years, tried everything, changing diet, etc. Accutane was the only thing that worked, and it worked extremely well. Only downside was that my lips were incredibly chapped the whole time I was on it.

I suffered with acne, for almost 15 years. In 1998- I had enough of zits that I consulted with a top dermatologist, from Singapore. He wasn't messing around, either. Read below:

1) Change your pillowcases EVERY DAY.
He says that the #1 cause of acne, is germs from saliva....ie; drool on our pillows, when we sleep. There are more germs inside our MOUTH....than our own ASSH*LE!
2) When shampooing- rinse your hair with your back facing the shower head.
Our scalp has TONS of oils that contain bacteria. Let those oils run down your backside, rather than down your entire face, when rinsing. Soap, scrub and rinse your back well, too. Get a back brush, or Loofa pad.
3) Wash face first...then your butt crack.
NOT the other way around. Use two DIFFERENT SOAPS(antibacterial face soap, regular soap for ass)ONLY for each body part.
4) Use mild exfoliating scrub, once a week.
To rid of surface pore blockage, and old, dead skin layer.

Adjustment of personal hygiene habits is VITAL. I did EXACTLY what he told me for ONE MONTH.....and the zits never re-appeared. Not even a bad diet brought them back. His advice was PURE GOLD!!!

Accutain causes other problems down the track, so you won't get me near the stuff. Plus you're not treating the underlying cause of your acne.
Ever notices how many acne sufferers have other allergies, gut problems, blocked sinus, asthma? Our Western diet is the underlying problem! and additional things need to be done to reverse the damage after diet is fixed.

@ dilberto Those things can help a few mild cases but I have been doing that for years. Also as above this is not the cause of acne, there is something wrong with your body. We shouldn't even need to wash to avoid acne. Our ancestors never washed and they had clear skin. The average age of acne patients has now increased from 20 to 26 years old! Something is happining to cause this!

What other problems does Accutane cause? I've never heard of any, except they used to say it was linked to depression, but I think that's because kids with horrible acne get depressed about it, not that the drug actually causes it. I never had any problems except for the chapped lips, and it went away when I stopped using Accutane.

If our diets were responsible for acne, wouldn't everyone have it? I don't see too many people with acne, and almost everyone in the US has a horrible diet.

I'm sorry man but Accutain is bad stuff, all hard drugs that can kill a fetus if you are pregnet are. I it was my body I would have done extensive research before ingesting that poison. Your body will now be weakened, the severity will be proportional to the time you were on it.
-It can cause loss of vision at night!
-hearing problems!
-weakened bones and joints
-thinning of hair
-sensitivity to light
-damages your internal organs.

Accutane can cause birth defects, premature births, and death in babies whose mothers took Accutane while they were pregnant. See "What is the most important information I should know about Accutane?" and "What are the important warnings for females taking Accutane?"
Serious mental health problems. See "What is the most important information I should know about Accutane?"

Serious brain problems. Accutane can increase the pressure in your brain. This can lead to permanent loss of sight, or in rare cases, death. Stop taking Accutane and call your doctor right away if you get any of these signs of increased brain pressure: bad headache, blurred vision, dizziness, nausea, or vomiting. Also, some patients taking Accutane have had seizures (convulsions) or stroke.

Abdomen (stomach area) problems. Certain symptoms may mean that your internal organs are being damaged. These organs include the liver, pancreas, bowel (intestines), and esophagus (connection between mouth and stomach). If your organs are damaged, they may not get better even after you stop taking Accutane. Stop taking Accutane and call your doctor if you get severe stomach, chest or bowel pain, trouble swallowing or painful swallowing, new or worsening heartburn, diarrhea, rectal bleeding, yellowing of your skin or eyes, or dark urine.

Bone and muscle problems. Accutane may affect bones, muscles, and ligaments and cause pain in your joints or muscles. Tell your doctor if you plan vigorous physical activity during treatment with Accutane. Tell your doctor if you develop pain, particularly back pain or joint pain. There are reports that some patients have had stunted growth after taking Accutane for acne as directed. There are also some reports of broken bones or reduced healing of broken bones after taking Accutane for acne as directed. No one knows if taking Accutane for acne will affect your bones. If you have a broken bone, tell your doctor that you are taking Accutane. Muscle weakness with or without pain can be a sign of serious muscle damage. If this happens, stop taking Accutane and call your doctor right away.

Hearing problems. Some people taking Accutane have developed hearing problems. It is possible that hearing loss can be permanent. Stop using Accutane and call your doctor if your hearing gets worse or if you have ringing in your ears.

Vision problems. While taking Accutane you may develop a sudden inability to see in the dark, so driving at night can be dangerous. This condition usually clears up after you stop taking Accutane, but it may be permanent. Other serious eye effects can occur. Stop taking Accutane and call your prescriber right away if you have any problems with your vision or dryness of the eyes that is painful or constant.
Lipid (fats and cholesterol in blood) problems. Many people taking Accutane develop high levels of cholesterol and other fats in their blood. This can be a serious problem. Return to your prescriber for blood tests to check your lipids and to get any needed treatment. These problems generally go away when Accutane treatment is finished.

Allergic reactions. In some people, Accutane can cause serious allergic reactions. Stop taking Accutane and get emergency care right away if you develop hives, a swollen face or mouth, or have trouble breathing. Stop taking Accutane and call your doctor if you develop a fever, rash, or red patches or bruises on your legs.

Signs of other possibly serious problems. Accutane may cause other problems. Tell your doctor if you have trouble breathing (shortness of breath), are fainting, are very thirsty or urinate a lot, feel weak, have leg swelling, convulsions, slurred speech, problems moving, or any other serious or unusual problems. Frequent urination and thirst can be signs of blood sugar problems.

Serious permanent problems do not happen often. However, because the symptoms listed above may be signs of serious problems, if you get these symptoms, stop taking Accutane and call your doctor . If not treated, they could lead to serious health problems. Even if these problems are treated, they may not clear up after you stop taking Accutane.

OK to explain why acne is caused by diet I will explain how it occurs. So you're eating lots of sugar, milk and cereal as a kid. You will begin to develop a leaky gut which means your gut won't filter all the toxins and other bad things. Now your liver is working overtime to filter everything out. Now you have acne. Hormonal acne is a little different but goes away in a few years (diet agravates the problem). But not everyone will develop a leaky gut some people can process that junk food and this is why not everyone gets acne. Don't think acne is uncommon, I don't have any figures but the acne industry is huge! And it's getting bigger every year.
Now, the reason people think diet is not the cause is because when they go on a health food diet nothing happens. This is because they still have a leaky gut, toxic liver and fungus/yeast infection. These problems need to be addressed first!!!
