Damn microsoft. We've been though a lot together. I learned my way around computers becuase of you. I remember back in windows 3.1 when you had to have the little floppy drives and **** to play games. I had wheel of fortune on floppy disk and it was like 8 disks and I used to play it all day long.

I learned all your tricks, all your shortcuts. How to optmize you. I remember your best (Windows 2000 Pro) and your not so good (Windows Vista)..

but this pile of horse feces that you call an operating system, windows 8, is the last straw. I can't do it anymore. You hog resources, for no ****ing reason whatsoever. I could run windows 2000 pro with 512mb of ram space, and have plenty of room to do everything I need. I have 8GB of ram in my laptop and it's sower than forrest gump in a trig class lol.

I've had windows 8 pretty much since, the month or 2 after it came out 2 years ago, but i can't do this anymore. After spending days trying to fix a network adapter that just magically disappeared for no reason at all, then reappears for minutes only to disappear again lol, basically i' being trolled by you.

We have a wide range of devices in our house. Every last devise, has a more stable operating system than you. My android phone has a more stable OS than you. My wife's iphone has a more stable OS than you. My wife's mac has a more stable OS than you. ****, my ps4 has a more stable OS than you.

i mean what the **** Microsoft lol? All I want is a damn OS that doesnt' crash, isn't 'a resource hog and doesn't lose hardware in the middle of me trying to work.

Anyway, I'm done. I'm gonna go to the apple store this weekend and get a macbook pro with the retina display. It was a nice ride, we had some good memories, but it's over.

Really weird because they were on the right track too.

Vista was terrible and hogged resources too, then Windows 7 came out which ran better. Everyone had Windows 7, it was like the new Windows XP. Every organization started upgrading their terrible XP comps to Windows 7, and then they make Windows 8 which went backwards again.

I have a windows phone backbreaker. And a windows phone has a tile interface. Now, do you want to guess where Windows 8 and the new Xbox Live got the tile interface from? You guessed it! Windows phone 7.

Some microsoft higher up exec wanted to integrate the computer OS, the xbox OS and the phone OS, and we end up with this terrible result.

I have a touch screen laptop with Windows 8 and I love it. Not sure what you guys are talking about.

Then again, I don't work on the internet for a living like backbreaker does. Maybe I'm just ignorant. Maybe I'm not. Either way, I'm happy.

You know, I used to think ignorance was bad thing - it didn't matter the subject: politics, money, the red-pill etc.

Lately, though, I've come to realize that ignorance is beautiful. It's the only thing that actually makes me happy.

Having ignorance to all the things that aggravate the rest of the populace.

I have one. It's called Linux

I was done with Microsoft after Windows 2000. I have one PC in the house that still runs Windows. It came with Windows 7 and it's solely used for music production. Other than that, I use Linux for everything else.

I really feel for those of you who were nurtured on Microsoft and ended up being betrayed by Windows 8.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

I do alot of work with Linux Apache but general linux, too much work. I'm not that much into hardcore tech sit anymore, plus the programs I have to have are all MS /Mac based for my mac.

I have a pc around my house somewhere here in the garage or addict, I have like 6-7 pc's lol, that has a dual partition on it with Linux RedHat installed on it.

I fail to see how Linux is too much work. Setting up the new OS install can have its quirks, but once they're done, you never have to worry about it again. I barely spend any time working on any of my Linux boxes as compared to the frustration I used to always have with windows. And unless you're a gamer, there are pretty decent Linux alternatives to all the must have Windows programs out there.

I will never buy a mac, simply because it's all proprietary and unexpandable.

Exchange Server is what's keeping MS in business. If it weren't for the difficulty of getting a Linux desktop that has email AND calendaring, Linux would take over the world.

I absolutely HATE MS licensing.

It doesn't matter how good-looking you are, how romantic you are, how funny you are... or anything else. If she doesn't have something INVESTED in you and the relationship, preferably quite a LOT invested, she'll dump you, without even the slightest hesitation, as soon as someone a little more "interesting" comes along.

You do realize that you can return back to Windows 7 and not deal with 8's crap?

Viruses can easily be avoided first and foremost by not visiting shady websites and practicing general anti f*cktard internet habits. Everything else can be handled by a solid and lightweight antivirus.

Or get a Mac and deal with the occasional extremely mysterious software errors and expensive repairs costs for when it breaks down.

If your PC is installed with Windows 8, you must buy a Windows 7 Retail copy to operate. You will also not be able to wipe the Windows 8 installed OEM HDD/SSD that came with your system and install Windows 7. It must be a clean install.

It's also possible to send you an invoice from an identical match coworker email addy containing a virus. From what you wrote, I don't think your work uses Outlook.

There's absolutely nothing business can do about it either. However, Lync is one hell of a cost saver, until they decide to ante up their licensing.

Backbreaker,

I was frustrated with W8, but I was able to get accustomed to it. I would say that the keyboard shortcuts are a lot more efficient than previous versions. You can always upgrade to W8 pro and downgrade. In case you aren't aware, RAM does not make your system run anymore faster. It allows more applications to be ran, processing speed is still affected.

If that doesn't work, switch to VMWare :)

I made all my money, by selling custom built computers. I know windows inside and out. I'm also MCSE certified. Windows 8 a pile of ****e lol.

I actually LIKE the interface. the interface is not my problem. My problem is that it sucks lol. It's not stable, it crashes if you look at it wrong, doing tech **** like getting into safe mode requires you to give your first born son, it has drivers for nothing, the real killer is that software / hardware compaines hate win 8 so much they don't even bother putting out drivers for it. so have the hardware **** I have just doesnt' work right with windows 8.

I would even be fine sat this point with windows 8. i have windows 8.1. Windows 8, wasn't complete dog ****. But the PC i have basically came with windows 8.1 on it and you can't go back without buying windows 8. It's not like previous versions of windows where youc n just roll back the update. Adn I was actually to the point where I was going to go buy windows 8, but i said if i'm going to buy anything, I'm buying a completely different OS.

I remember when pulg and play meant, plug and play, not plug and **** around with it until it somewhat works

The thing I hate about W8 is accessing Pictures through the start menu. You have to Alt-F4 to exit out of it.

I currently work with all operating systems pretty regularly in the scope of my job. I think that all operating systems have their place to be and not to be including Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, IOS, etc, etc, etc.

In relative terms Windows 8.1 is much more stable and secure than Windows 8.0. That being said, I really don't like either of them.

I think your choice in OS comes down to your needs..

-Do you want to be able to play games and have the most options available to you for software, but don't mind sacrificing security and stability? Windows 7 or 8.1 are probably best.

-Do you a good mix of security, stability, and a reasonable choice in available software.. Mac is for you.

-Do you not do much other than get on the Internet to a limited number of sites and use a word processor or spreadsheet when you need? Try Ubuntu Linux or some other Linux

Another option is pick one OS and then run other virtually with solutions like VMware.

There are all kinds of options. It really just depends on YOU.

I would like to see Microsoft come out with an OS that completely blows me away. XP was close to that, but Windows 7 or 8 or 8.1 are surely not.

Channel your excited feelings into positive thoughts and behaviors. You will attract women by being enthusiastic, radiating energy, and becoming someone who is fun to be around.

For me, that was Windows 95. It was certainly different and new after we all got used to Windows 3.11.

Speaking of which, I think the best thing Microsoft could have done with regards to "marrying" the touch and mouse interface would be to go back to the design of Windows 3.1. It was much more icon-based, but still very functional. They really blew it by attempting to scotch-tape two different operating systems together.

i have to diagree with you. Windows 2000 pro. they had to force me to stop using pro i used it until you couldn't get drivers for it anymore. windows 2000 pro never ever crashed, used no resources whatsoever and was very easy and tech friendly. i just stopped using it really 2-3 year ago, it just got to the point where i couldnt' find drivers for the new hardware i was getting anymore

I did beta testing for Windows 8 (I own a networking business) and my colleagues and I were so horrified by this ill-conceived OS that we told Microsoft we are going to do everything we can to keep our clients on 7 and keep them out of 8, including new purchases.

You would think they would have listened to the voices who are behind business owners' decision-making processes, but MS was so certain they were going to drive demand with their silly idea of unifying the tablet and desktop experience.

I agree that 8 and 8.1 is full of unpredictable quirks (drivers and hardware inconsistencies) and I try to avoid it whenever possible. I'm typing this right now on a Win 8 machine with Classic Shell installed.

I highly recommend Classic Shell for those who want the Windows 7 interface back. Unfortunately it's still 8 under the hood. There are a few advantages to 8, but I'll take 7 any day as the OS I can depend on. Here's to hoping that 9 will be a winner.

The history of MS is an almost perfect record of good OS, bad, good OS, bad, ad infinitum. We're do for a good one in 9 if they stick to tradition.
