I dont know if any of you care but everyone always talks about how Mike Vick and Randy Moss have incredible 40 times(4.25 and 4.28) but I was watching the USA Indoors and it was mentioned that Maurice Greene can run a 3.95. Hats off to Mr. Greene and I hope you get your world record back this year.

I, myself, ran a 4.7 as a freshman and after 4 years of track I'd like to think it dropped down to 4.6 or 4.5 but who knows, what are your times?

I run a 4.0 and am in training for the olympics this summer, after which I will be starting for the Raiders.

40 times are as prone to lying as max benches. i.e. who cares?

MY reality
Why should anyone care what time they can run a 40 in?

Unless you're trying to get into the NFL/signed to a college team.

At this point you probably have a woman (or multiple women) chasing you around, calling you all the time, wanting to be with you. So let's talk about how to KEEP a woman interested in you once you have her. This is BIG! There is nothing worse than getting dumped by a woman that you really, really like.

You could probably time my 40 with a hourglass or a sundial.

The fastest 40 I ever ran was a 4.57 and that was when I was like in the 9th-10th grade....It takes a lot of time and effort to cut down your 40 time, A LOT!

I used to run at a 5.3 I think(it could have been timed with an hourglass).

i never ran the 40, but my best 100m was 11.1 in grade 12...my 40 time wouldn't be that good, cause i am a slow starter

i run a 4.44.

i ussed to run a 4.6 last year around this time. i did some research. i found the calves, quads, ankles, hamstrings, virtually your entire lower body makes your 4o time. If you have been training your lower body for a while than you should see a drop as long as youve been keeping flexible.

also, look up plyometrics at bodybuilding .com, this type of training has greatly enhanced my speed...

If vicks time isnt real its gotta be close cuz that boy can fly!

i read he ran a 4.2. but i also read that maurice green ran a 4.3. that would make vick a tenth of a second faster than the fastest man alive so... probably bull.

the 40time isnt a great indicator of top speed. maurice green may run a 4.3 the first 40m of his race, but like most sprinters...his speed increases as the race goes on. my 40 time is probably around 4.6 like i said. Yet I run an 11 second 100. If that was a good indicator of my speed, i would be running a 3.7 40yd, but, like i said the speed increases as the race goes on so its hard to judge a person by their 40time, the 40 is more of a quickness/accel test than overall speed.

no, greene's time is true. they announced it during the USA Track and Field Indoor meet. To the person who said the start doesn't matter, the 100m dash especially in the world class levels is all about the start. If you get a near perfect start you will win the race and this was proven with Tim Montgomery. He had amazing reaction time and a near perfect start a few years back when he set his world record before that he hadn't been close to the WR yet he broke it. Unless you are Michael Johnson in the 200 or 400 the start is the most important part of the race so Greene runs a 3.95 and Vick runs a 4.25, those are the times and Greene would smoke Vick any day of the week.

i dont think nebody said that the start isnt important...in the pros..it definitely is...as for high school athletics...i get beat a lil off the start 60% of the time..but have the overall speed to blow past them..i said that the 40 isnt a good indicator of overall speed..just like a cars 1/8 mile isnt a good showing of top speed either..it doesnt allow for maximal performance due to a short time frame...my first 40-50 meters...if i kept that pace..i would be runnning like 14-15 second 100s...but im running low 11's high 10's...in football...the 40 means a lot...in terms of all out speed...its not a great tool...football needs quickness and explosiveness where as track needs a great balance of quickness and speed...thats why i dont give too much to the people who brag about running a 4.8 40...partially because I could pull off a 4.6 on an average day...and because i know that in the long stretch..i would probably pull ahead...great 40 = great quickness... not speed...thats all im trying to say...wow...my fingers are tired now...

I understand what you're saying I guess I just read it a little too fast yesterday and I had to tell that other kid that Greene could smoke the **** out of Vick. In the Olympics and those types of world class races most of the guys are already at or very close to their top speed by then end of the 40 and I was focusing more on them than HS because it's a lot easier and everyone is on the same level but now that I read it again I see what you're saying.

Another thing, if you start so slow and still run a low 11 why don't you change events to the 200 or 400 I'm sure you would tear it up if you have that type of top speed. I know a sophmore who last year ran a 4.38 in the 40 and came out for track and ran an 11.00 in the 100, 22.6 in the 200, and broke into the 52's in the 400. His brother who is a senior with me ran a 4.43, 11.2(He only ran the open once because they moved him the to 4x100), I'm not sure what his 200 was but he later got moved into the 800 after they realized the 4x100 was doomed and he ran a 1.54 in that and sometimes makes an apperance in the 4x400 running splits in the 49's. That's just a little motivation for you if you've never thought about running those other events but it also shows how for the most part a good start=a great time.
