Not sure if I understand what you're asking. Pushups work everything a bench press would, plus some added stabilizer muscles of the core and legs to keep you straight. Mainly chester, front delts and triceps. You won't get huge doing pushups. You'll get a good workout, however, if you combine it with dips, pullups, running, squat jumps, etc....

can I ask why you want to do that many?

Just do pushups. Do them everyday, and eventually you'll pump out 100. It's endurance. Running more and more everyday improves your endurance, same thing with pushups. What's the point though?

Like skilla said to do 100 push-ups you need a lot of endurance. It has very little to do with strength, so just keep doing more and more push-ups every day.

Why exactly do you want to do 100 push-ups?

I remember when I was 16 and I did like 400-500 pushups a day, it was the period I grew more in my whole life... I didn't even lift and I didn't eat too much, I just spent my whole time doing pushups... I remember my arms gained a couple of inches in a month a my chest became a lot bigger

a couple of inches eh?

Anybody have any idea how much weight that is? I also find that to be very very unrealistic.

Yeah Im sorta having the same problem (a good problem though). I only do pushups, sit-ups, and jump rope every day, But I am extremely happy with my strength now and how my body looks.

I do my pushups with my feet elevated on a bed so that my back is parallel with my legs and feet--its alot harder that way I think, but its all I do. But I have reached a plateau where I'm stuck at 45, and cant get past that. Anyone know about breaking through plateus?

Also, I happen to have a strong right hand--Im sure most ppl do.
Anyone know the best way to strengthen the left hand? Concentrate only on working the left hand or what?

I gained about a dozen pounds in the same time. I'm not saying that it's necessarily due to doing pushups, I'm just telling you guys my experience. Then, probably most of it was due to overall growth, since my face aged a bit back then, but I'm pretty sure pushups are somewhat useful in achieving a nice body.

Was that mainly muscle, or did you just gain weight in general?

Probably some was due to my bones getting bigger, maybe. Anyway, I remember that many times in the locker room my friends would comment that my arms had grown bigger than my chest and that I looked ridicolous, which can't be due to normal growth... Probably it was because I did pushups with bad form and my arms gained too much muscle compared to my chest.

Performing 100 pushups isn't going to add much tone or any size, but I include pushups in a weightlifting routine to totally exhaust my muscles...for example, skullcrushers followed by diamond-style pushups...now THAT is the way to do it.
Agreed diamonds are a killer after any upper body workout, I love to hate them lol

Social disturbance, if you do pushups 3 times per week or more, maybe you should take 4 or 5 days off and see how you feel when you start back up again. Sometimes the body just needs a short period of healing time to fully recharge. You won't start losing strength or endurance for over a week, usually 2 weeks, so don't worry about shrinking or dropping your max pushups down.

In case it's mental, you might want to start out with 46 as a set goal. Say to yourself, I'm not going to stop until I get to 46, even if I end up dropping to 1 knee at 45 i'm going to take 2 seconds, pick my knees back up, and then do that last rep.
