Ok i have 1 hour during the day of free time that i can work out. I dont even have time to go to the gym. Im wondering can i accomplish anything doing just situps and pushups? Can i get toned or bigger or will this accomplish nothign for me? Im very skinny and my metabolism is through the roof. I smoke a pack of cigarettes a day and weed every day. Im lazy and drink a lot of beer. This isnt a joke. Im trying to get off on the right foot. I eventually would like to be in shape, quit smoking and cut down on drinking.

This isnt a joke.
I really thought it was a joke until I read that! LOL

OK man here's the deal. If you don't lay off the alcohol and cigarettes at least, you will not gain anything or get in shape. Period.

If you quit smoking and cut way back on the alcohol (weed isn't as bad for getting bigger but it still hinders you), and you start eating better, you will get some benefit from pushups/situps/pullups + cardio. But you will most likely not gain very much weight and you will quickly reach a palteau where you don't improve anymore. The most you can hope for is a small gain in muscle and maybe get a six pack from running/situps/eating right. You'll still be scrawny but you'll be ripped.

In anything you have to be serious if you want results, otherwise you're just kidding yourself. If you're not going to do it right then don't do it. It takes effort and dedication, but its worth it bro.

ya i need to quit smoking cigarettes. Thats the first thing i would like to accomplish. IM the most unhealthy mofo you ever met.

I drink like 4 coca colas a day, I dont drink any water at all.
I smoke the weed daily and drink beer when im high
I live on the third floor apartment and get tired when i have to go home and walk up the stairs. Im only 27 years old so i know im on the wrong track. I eat a bagel for breakfast every day and fast food for lunch and dinner and ice cream before i go to bed. All day while im at work i eat 2 bags of chips a day.

I really want to get healthier but i have been in a pattern like this for about 10 or more years and its really hard to even get motivated or know where to start. I know this may be funny to people, hell its funny just reading it back to myself but everything here is true.

I think i realized i needed to so something for my health the other day. My cousin visited me, hes 5 years old. He challenged me to a race. I cramped up and got was winded in about 6 car lengths and yes he won

yeh that diet is very poor

i only changed mine last year, having gone through adolescence with the same kind of diet as yours minus the weed, beer and cigarettes.

you should get some dumbbells and barbells for the free time you do have; but i wouldnt recommend doing squats or bench presses in the workplace ;)

take a first easy step. get rid of the coke and drink milk and water; it took me a little effort to get out of this pattern since i used to go through 5 big bottles of coke a week.

substitute the weed for peanuts. probably too hard. just eat loads of peanuts. those will fight your metabolism - if it actually is high; prob just cuz your diet's mince

you will get gains through changing your diet and doing elementary exercises, but they would be much faster through gym workouts. not to worry, it'll just take more time (provided you are consistent)

what are your aims anyway? if you're bulking up, don't give a sh!t about not being able to run for long. if you want to become healthier all round, then you should worry about that and get some cardio in

good luck

"substitute the weed for peanuts."

LOL good one. I have never heard of this but how is it that peanuts will fight my metaobolism? do you mean like salty peanuts?

My goal is to become overall healthier but I would like to see physical improvements as well. I dont want to be a tank though
I just feel its time to do something constructive before I die of cancer or arthritis or something

heh. try the non-salty peanuts. they're a good source of protein and good fats. skimmed milk's also good and easy to drink.

if you want to become healthier overall, i'd suggest bulking for 10 weeks then cutting for 5 or something. i'm not an expert on this one so don't take my word for it. have you read diesel's stickies? they have the info you're looking for, including debate on whether bulking is in fact healthy

Well Skel, I used to be somewhat like you. Hit the herb everyday and drink beer til I puke. I've changed my ways though. With the diet you're on now you won't make any real gains. You need the right amount of protein and carbs to get places. Beer is just empty un-nutrional calories. Before you consider hitting the gym or just working out, quit the heavy smoking and go easy on the mary jane and beer.;)

Thanks for the advice. I should say that I cant drink milk because im allergic to dairy products. Tomorrow I will start out slow by trying to cut out the caffine in my diet. Ill start drinking water, short steps get you there right?

I think I could cut down drinking. If I had one beer a night I could do it I think. I dont think I could stop smoking weed or cigarettes yet though. I need the weed for whatever reason and I need to smoke cigs because I get paranoid when I smoke weed and it calms me down. I have tried to quit smoking 7 times so far. Yes I count. I have tried everything from the patch to gum to cold turkey. Im just a spineless person when it comes to will power. But first we will see how the caffine thing goes. Ill let you know

Honestly man, you are lucky and you have a step up on alot of people because you have a fast metabolism and you're thin. Most people with your habits are overweight or obese so luckily that is a huge obstacle that you don't have to overcome. If I ate like that man, I would be fat as hell. So....if you cut the smokes or quit, cut down on the booze, and start working out then you will get in better shape...no question. Push Ups, Sit Ups, Pull Ups, Chair Dips, Walking...then jogging/running, Sprints, Shadow Boxing, Jumping Rope, Body Weight Squats etc etc etc. There are a ton of things you can do to workout if you put your mind to it, and you could develop a kick a$$ hour long workout. Not to mention as someone said, you can also buy some weights and throw in curls, lunges, and DB squats etc. Add a better nutrition plan, and you'll be looking and feeling better and better as time goes on.
Make it happen. Good luck.

who cares
first of all lay off the drugs.... smoking weed as well as cigs is way bad for the lungs. drinking is just a bunch of empty calories. i know is hard i personally had to lay down the joint. also you might want to get some detox to help your body get rid of THC residues faster.

then start working out, the pushups and the situps are good for now. then if they become to easy and you dont have weights or cant go to the gym, do modified pushups and get a pair of dumbells...

also take some supplemets like whey protein, or glutamine and argenine are really good for building muscle.
