That depends. Are we talking the 5.7 or the 6.0 V8? Either way, it's not going to be as efficient as a Metro! LOL I'd guess between 15 to 18 in the city, and about 20-24 highway for a motor in decent shape.

When looking to buy any used car, check the mileage. For a 3 and a half year old motor, I'd expect no more than 45,000 miles. Check for leaks, electrical problems, suspension, (which is really not impressive in the recent GTO's). Get a Carfax report, and remember, most states... you buy AS IS!

Edit:

I've got one. 17.4 mpg on my last tank of gas w/ the 6 speed manual mostly highway. If you have any questions, PM me.
I guess I was a bit generous with the mpg. :)

They are cool cars, and very fast.

Two thing that might happen in the future that would affect you are the price of gas going back to the $4/gallon range, and also GM going under, or at least Pontiac going under. Parts and service could get harder to find if that happens. And certainly I would not buy a warranty from a dealership, because if they go out of business, they don't have to honor the warranty.

I was looking at the G8 sport truck. I always wanted to buy a modern el camino but alas these are the primary reasons why I won't be getting one...well that and it's NEVER going to make it to production at this point.

Hope you have extra money for repairs. Especially a clutch job if the previous owner's been riding it hard.

You can find many GTO's with less than 20k miles mostly because they don't use it as a daily driver. Also, we don't know if the OP wants a manual

I love my GOAT. She gets plenty of looks, and is fast. Next up for me are headers. Soon as I get some headers on there, its gonna be great.
