So how is that the fault of boomers? We live in a free market economy. I do agree that many large corporations have a stranglehold and too much power over pricing. But the consumer ultimately decides if he wants to swallow it or go with out. If you can't afford gas for your car, then walk, ride your bike, take the bus.
It's not. However, where the Boomers failed was creating sustainable prosperity. Future generations didn't get to enjoy the bounty they did. That one wasn't entirely their fault, as the GI and Silent Generations also contributed to this phenomenon.

I'm paying into it right now as a working person and don't expect to see any of it when I'm of retirement age.

You were born in the latter part of Gen X, so it wouldn't be surprising for you to have early Boomer parents.

Those home loan rates were ridiculous in the late 1970s/early 1980s, but the homes themselves were more affordable. Mortgages were also refinanced when rates dropped.
And today's 4-8pct home loan rates are still a bargain. Majority of homes are built by big corporate home builders. They set the price. Blame them, not the boomers. Boomers have been retired for a few years now. There is less competition to build a house now days. That's why the price is ridiculous, along with material costs.

My dad was a boomer, when he was in high school he made enough money mowing lawns to buy a new corvette. The day he went to buy it the car caught fire and he ended up buying a brand new Chevelle SS 396. It will take $100k to get one now days. So when I was in high school I figured out that there was no way I could afford a new car on that level even though I mowed yards just like he did. I settled for a used Mustang GT 5.0. I didn't fault the boomers for this. Those were the economic conditions of the times.

My boomer parents also paid 25% interest rate on a home loan in the late 70's, early 80's. It was economics.
Im sorry but when you look over the points made in this thread, you look at an economic condition, shrug your shoulders and go "These conditions created themselves" while on the side of history favorable to a comparison of today is honestly laughable, I'm not trying to insult you but this is exactly the response every single other poster in here expected.

The economic condition didn't create itself, it took time to root, but what's been done with it has been malformed into this hustle culture where you have no personal life as a average person, your life is the hustle, you wouldn't have time to mow lawns today in the first place because you need to be in school and embracing technology in order to be competitive.

Technology has made the world hyper competitive, sure the lawns need mowing but most people are inclined to mow it themselves because our buying power is so low. Most people would laugh at you today suggesting paying somebody to do something they can do themselves because it's engrained into the culture to do so.

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

And you will be able to relax and to live your life in peace and quiet.

So how does my illegal Mexican neighbor that swam across the Rio Grande with absolutely nothing become a multi millionaire? He has only been here 20 years. According to you it's not possible in today's conditions. But he did all of this in the last 20yrs. I know a few more just like him. He isnt an anomaly.

Big time strawman argument. There were a myriad of terrible policy decisions starting in the 1970s that all but guaranteed future generations would be fvcked.
Answer the question. Trade agreements, Nafta, outsourcing manufacturing, engineering, accounting sure havent helped us in the motherland. Trump tried to fix those things and he did change some economic policy to benefit the USA but I know you won't admit that.

8.8% of the US population are considered millionaires....

Aside from that point, you also have Mexican tribalism, these people offer advantages to those of their own culture, while most people living in America don't have a culture outside of that within their own ethnicity, meaning less tribalism and even more competition.

Multi-millionaires are anomalies. They make up a fraction of 1% of Americans. It’s also impossible that he is in the US illegally with that kind of money. This post is nonsensical.

Well I think there is a HUGE struggle on the horiszon, as modern people from the developed world across the world, the younger gneration have completely different values than boomers, and boomers dont get it.

It is a completely different world coming. NO ONE in youner people will care about boomer 9-5 office corporate culture or capitalism in 40 years time.

Relationships are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT already for 20s people, they are in a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT world to boomers who all smply followed the education, job, marriage, homeowner route and took BOTH marriage and home ownership for granted.

It is an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT world in the views of younger people. Much faster, much more technological advanced, way more complex thatn what boomers understand.

Pick it apart and ignore the point. He framed houses. Learned the trade working for a big corporate home builder. Started his own crew with 3guys. Now he runs 6-7 crews of 10-15 guys each. The point again is if you want to take the chance, work your ass off in all types of weather, eat beans to grow your business, and do hard manual labor slinging boards all day you could be him too. An illegal that defied the odds. Don't gloss over the point I made. Winners don't make excuses, they make it happen.

This is special pleading… arguing for an exception to the rule. Let’s say your supposedly illegal neighbor somehow got his hands on millions of US dollars. That would place him in the less than 1% of Americans who are extremely wealthy. By definition, the wealthiest people are outliers.

I got your point last time. I should have left off the part about him becoming wealthy, maybe you wouldn't have discounted the message? Rich people always get blamed for being rich and it discounts anything they ever accomplished. Typical. You wouldn't even know he was rich.

You want women, get off your ass and improve yourself. Don't blame current day conditions. Right????

Well if You want money, get off your ass and do something. It's not the boomers fault.

You can barely get a white person on a job site. Very few. They don't want to do the work. You realize that? I know the building construction/development business quite well.

The discontent towards boomers is justified. It is not about disliking rich people or boomers; it is about the psychopathy of getting yours and telling people after you to pound sand. If your illegal neighbor story were true, good for him. If he is a boomer, odds are he now wants to build a 30 foot wall along the same exact border he illegally crossed. And that’s why the younger generations generally have no admiration for the boomers.

Join the armed forces do 20, you’ll get that and more.

Take a county job, again you’ll retire with more. Most gubmint jobs will easily provide you 70k in retirement.

All I see in this thread is a bunch of whiny bitshes jealous of someone else’s good fortune. I mean FACK some of you are dissing your own ‘rents.

NO ONE OWES YOU SH1T, GET THE FSCK OVER IT.

. My dad has over a 70k/year pension and complains about his life constantly, it's actually downright infuriating considering there is not an industry currently that would offer something like that today.

Boomers are trying to cut that too. Look at what they are doing to government pensions in the state governments. My last governor ran on destroying the teachers union and defunding the transit system.

He is 36yo. Came here when he was 16. He is simple and humble like the great generation that built this country. Many like him I know first hand in my line of work.
