What was the entire point of the garden of eden story, where eve betrayed gods command and her husband by obeying the serpent at the garden of eden? Does it maybe describe a tendancy that has ALWAYS been there?
The point was to describe the Fall of Mankind and how the sin of the first man was inherited down through all of mankind, making all of mankind corrupt. However there is some very interesting points you might like: What was the sin by God's own words? It was actually two listed by God when He confronted them.
Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’
It sounds like the first thing God listed was Adam
listening to his wife. If you go back a bit further in the story during the excuse making phase, Adam blamed the chick and blamed God for giving her to him. The chick blamed the snake. The snake looked around for someone to blame and ,...Uh-Oh,...no one there.
Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”
And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
Lastly, Adam didn't take charge and deal with the situation before it got out of hand. He let Eve make the decisions with the snake,...and she did. So in a way,...Eve was the first feminist, the strong independent women, and Adam was the first beta,...and they caused the fall of mankind.
Want to know why, or at least part of why God put man in charge and put the woman in the secondary role,...this was it. It was reiterated much later on in the Bible when it referred back to this:
From: 1st Timothy Ch2
I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.
