Why "Friends First" Doesn't Work

If you want to date someone, don't befriend them, instead build rapport and strike while the iron is hot.

There's no benefit to waiting on asking out someone you want to date. If you've been friends with her for a while and then later on realize you want to date her, ask her out then. Don't be friends with someone just in hopes of having a relationship with them later.

I think (as many probably do) that becoming friends first is a great way to stay just friends.

Because in all my years I’ve learned that for every woman that makes you “take things slow” and go the friends first route, there’s many who won’t make you go around your elbow to get to your ass. For all the time you wasted on being her friend and jumping through hoops, you could have been dating multiple women that wouldn’t make you do that.

Which likely means she’s interested in you and is willing to be your “friend” in the hopes you come around and want to date her. This “friendship” is not unlimited, however.
