Getting better results when heavier and relatively "fatter"?

True thing. I was focusing on brown rice and muesli for the low acidity, but realised they are also high GI even compared to things like white pasta. Seems like beans and nuts are the best balance for every day use.
Ahh...but white pasta that has been cooked and cooled is totally different

some guys look better with 12%-14 % bodyfat, lower than that their faces will look gaunt because of weak bone structure.

If the carb spikes insulin for long durations its likely fat is being stored instead of being used as energy.
Are you in the final weeks of a contest prep?

If not then you really dont need to worry about the insulin levels from white rice

Maybe it's because there is more 'fat" acceptance in the USA. Where I live, at least with online dating, the majority of the women are Jabba The Hutt-sized. They actually reject men thinner than THEY for the same reason tall women won't date shorter men.

Reason...they don't want to appear BIGGER than their partners....BOTH horizontally AND vertically.

For the extra weight, I think they don't want to be reminded that they have to lose weight or not in shape. I recall a slender woman, that's very attractive...slender, but not in shape at all...and admits to it. Said in her profile, "Please don't post pictures of your abs in a mirror, it's a constant reminder of how I don't work out."

So it's a comparison in image thing. It's like "He stays in shape, I don't...so I can't be reminded of that all the time."

Backinthegame78 sorry to hijack your tread but i have a question. I have the same "problem" as you. I'm 41 y/o, 90 kg and 1,75 meters, if i drop to 10% i will look gaunt (tried that once) because i have jaw problems and weak undereye projection (weak facial bones). If i lose weight and go to 13/14% will i still look fat or a bit more muscular guys?

Something that hasn't gone unnoticed to me is how my results have actually gotten significantly better lately over the past 6 months or so where I have been relative "fatter" than I normally am. I'm about 20 lbs heavier than what I normally am, about 205 lbs instead of 185 lbs. Body fat has gone from about 9% to 15-16% or so. But my results have improved a lot.

I am not sure what it is exactly. I noticed the same thing when I was traveling past this weight to get to my "ripped" weight, in that in this weight range I was getting hit on a lot by women. To be clear I don't look "fat"---I still look muscular, but to me personally, I feel fat. It seems women find me more attractive at a slightly heavier weight than at a leaner weight. Not sure if it's my face getting too skinny, or my body shape at that weight, or what it is, but it's definitely not the first time this has happened.

Not saying I didn't do OK when I was really muscular and in shape, I did. Lots of sex. But it was never as easy as it is now...I basically go on a date, and the woman goes gaga for me afterwards without me doing really anything other than what I normally do...that rarely happened before.

Has anyone else noticed they actually do better when they are slightly heavier than what they'd like but still muscular, even though the common thought is that being "ripped" gives you a huge advantage? Just another common notion I seem to be dispelling lately....
What is your body type like? I wouldn't be too surprised if you are one of those guys that gains fat more evenly than the average person, and ends up with a "square" looking body. If you were a lttle too thin before, it may make you look better when you gain weight (even if it's fat, but only with clothes on). At the end of the day, working out and being muscular is always better imo.

If you were a lttle too thin before, it may make you look better when you gain weight (even if it's fat, but only with clothes on). At the end of the day, working out and being muscular is always better imo.
I'm built like a football player. Like a linebacker. A 5' 9" spark plug. Big broad shoulders, thick and muscular, especially my lower body. Extremely wide back. Like blocks out the sun wide.

When I was really in shape I used to wear my Nike Dri fit football jerseys to the gym because my abs would literally show through it...Big thick abs like slabs of ribs.

At that point, my V was extremely pronounced...49 inch chest, 33 inch waist. Big thick upper back/traps...some of the most muscular legs you'll ever see in your life, 185 lbs, 8-9% body fat.

Now I'm definitely fatter but that muscle is still there. I still have some of the best legs you'll see. I'm still working out, just been eating too much BS. So the main areas I notice it is in my face and in my stomach region. Abs are very slightly visible.

Whatever it is, women like it.

Well then, I think that's the answer to your own question. It sounds like you are muscular and on top of that, when you gain some fat, you manage to retain the buff look.

Honestly, I wasn't far from it...at my peak about 2 and a half years ago I had a "Big 3"(Squat, Deadlift, Bench) of 1,420 lbs combined total, which put me in the elite or near elite category for my weight(I was 188 lbs at the time). Long term it simply wasn't worth it tho...ended up getting hurt after each of my PR lifts in all 3 categories. Now I lift more "modest" weight, but haven't lost much if any of the size from the heavier weight.

That's the plus, I guess. Once you lift that kind of weight for that period of time you build thick, dense, solid muscle that stays with you pretty much forever as you long as you do minimum work to maintain it.

Just go without carbs and substitute with natural fats. No risk of constant insulin spikes and you'll maintain/lose weight more easily.

Sure if you want to be smaller and weaker, and trick yourself into thinking you've dropped all this "fat" when you've simply just lost a bunch of glycogen that fuels your muscles, then go for it.

Sorry nobody answered this.

At 13% you wont look fat at all, you will be relativley lean. Facial changes become most pronounced once you drop below 12.

12-13% is "athletic" physique

Yup.

Low carb is complete BS, i lost so much strength and muscle on keto. Never again.

Complex Carbs is where its at, ie beans. Stay away from pastas, breads, etc. Those are simple carbs. Sugar is the tobacco of today.

Man i tried to cut out all sugar last year, went 10 days with 0 refined sugars but it just wasnt for me.

Good on thise that can do it but i figure you only live once, if you eat 80% good, train hard and hit your macros, thats good enough for me.

Vut if you can do it, more power to ya
