Ok. Not here to flame but just wondering why we cant talk politics or religion. This is anything else. And I dont like it when people attack my ideas but if we are all respectfull why cant we have some disscussion. If it turns into a flame war Im all for shutting a thread down, but if we can have an acctuall honest discussion (Not an argument) Why Not? I know the mods are being slight hard asses but that is their job. I just dont get why we cant have a civil discussion about these 2 subjects.

In case you haven't noticed, every topic that is related to religion or politics does turn into a flame war. The ones that don't, its usually because the mods shut it down before it could escalate to flaming. We are all too proud to have a civil discussion about anything that we disagree upon. Its a natural thing for guys, if we don't like an idea, we attack the person instead of the idea.

I agree that it would be nice to discuss these things, but I know that it will turn into a flame-a-thon.

I know that that happenes. I just wish we could keep civil and have a real convo about those things. Besides people who attack others beliefs are usally insecure about their own... I say that we can have convos about politics and religion untill it turns into a flame war. Why not at least try to have a good one that lasts without going to hell. Just my opinion.

this is the anything else section, so technically we should be able to discuss politics and religion, but as stated above, flaming almost always starts up sooner or later.

But one possibility would be to somehow be able to block members from the anything else section if they flamed any one more then neccessary, but not block vital members who give advice in the other forums.

in the end, I doubt that the mods are going to listen because this is a hard issue to solve.

hey mods, is there any chance of any possibility of creating a forum for politics and religion where no one who gets offended easily goes in?

I was reading your post discussing canada and the united states. I only saw ONE post that was in any way derogatory, or even related to politics. The rest was discussing the difference between two cultures.

It's as though if it's between two countries, it's politics, but the thought that two coutries are ALSO two different cultures is just an ABSURD idea is just crazy.

Political/religious discussions (and threads that change into these types of conversation) have a 99% failure rate. People lose their collective heads and turn into children, spamming up the forum and nitpicking across multiple threads. While some people think it's unfair, the end result is that it was put in place by the owner of the site, and unless he says otherwise, it's going to stay in place. There are thousands of other forums that do allow political debates - if you have the urge to talk about something like that, visit one of them. Thanks.

Here are a few threads to peruse. There are many others that can be found by using the search feature.

Excellent post immrtlwun. You really sum it up.

We used to allow political posts but they started turning into flame wars. When I say war I mean WAR. Posters wer following each other around the board flaming each other. It spilled over to the Discussion forum. After several warnings Admin ended up having to ban 4 posters. Admin also banned political discussions. This all happened about 2 years ago. Up until then Political discussions were ok.

Brian20o2: We are not being hard asses. We are making things (posting & replying) better for you. Just as most police are just doing their job, we are just being Moderators.

wavejams007: "hey mods, is there any chance of any possibility of creating a forum for politics and religion where no one who gets offended easily goes in?" I doubt that Admin will go for that one.

diablo: Thanks.

If you want to have a political debate there are boards on the web just for political discussions.

Yeah, it was a while ago. There was a time at one point that some threads were allowed as a "testing" process to see if posters could behave.

They couldn't.

This is a classic example of some people ruining it for others. Sorry everyone.

I like this idea... although I doubt it will go through. More people want a FR forum than a political one, and they didnt even give us that when they were messing with the site for a month.

Why do people want to so desperately give their hot air opinions on politics and religion? What are they going to achieve?

90% of people who join political forums are unemployed losers who have nothing to do. Their opinions have no impact on the world. Is George Bush going to look at an online forum, read an insightful post, and go "Oh wow, I'm going to disband the US nuclear arsenal cuz some anonymous guy said I should!"

If you really want to change the world for the better, become rich & successful, then get elected to office.

So is there somthing wrong with discussing things, that effect a large amount of people? Is it bad to get another point of view or a different opinion?

No, but as you can see, most of the "discussions" devolved into flame wars.

Besides, most people don't even understand how economics work, or fundmentals of human behaviour.

Politics is like philosophy. There is no right or wrong, but everyone thinks they're right.

True. But when people dont discuss things its hard to get correct information. I know what your saying, I just wish I could learn something on here without it becoming a flame war.

allowing topics such as this to go on is one great way to allow younger adults/kids to learn or become familar with things they otherwise wouldn't have any intentions on learning.

I can speak to personal experience, that there was a thread here when I FIRST got here about religion that was like 500 posts and after I sat down and read it, gave me the mindset to start to research my own religion at the time (baptist). About a year later, I decleared myself an athiest, not because of what people online said, but becuase I saw a meaningful dicussion on something I otherwise would have taken for granted.

So it's not all bad. There is a thread going on now that I am sure is opening alot of eyes of younger adults. I know as little as 6 months ago I had no idea what the Federal Reserve was. I was so caught by it, I started to study it, learned exactly what it is, and formed my own opinions on the subject, and I wish more would do the same.

I will say this and I will leave it at this. Democracy is one of man's greatest inventions. However, the one way to overthrow a democrcacy is to have an uninformed or uncaring public. The more you learn/familarize yourself with, the better chance we have of staying alfloat, because right now our country is going to hell in a handbasket, on more than one front

^Exactly!
All I want is for ideas to be respected and be able to be discussed in a civil manner. If thing turn into a flame war then by all means close the post.
