For those of us military buffs the word heavy tank stands out. The conception of tank categories was gone from our lexicon since 1950s, we had main battle tanks, well this is the T14, the heavy tank. This bad boy is classified, we don't know anything for certain yet, and this is what I find out from the historical 70's anniversary military parade, plus some confirmed rumors from let's call them 'friends'.

It appears this bad boy is around 60 tons, has 1500ish horsepower, either diesel or turbine engine, 125 mil smooth bore, and 2 man crew. The name is rather misleading, because Armata is just the vehicle platform. Active armor is some sort of 'Afhanit' composite armor. Dynamic or reactive armor is not clear. But if T90 is capable of firing at incoming projectiles, and this bad boy suppose to be new generation! Turret is unmanned and fully automatic, with some sort of capability of firing two projectiles at the same time, plus a carusel, world of tanks fans think batcat that fires two shots at the same time. Crew is located at the front in a protective capsule, ammunition is at the rear of the tank. Tank has radar plus a communication computer system which is capable identifying ground and air targets, prioritizing, and neutralizing in fully automatic mode. The smooth bore can fire missiles. The tank is capable of automization, basically it does not need crew, it can function in battle without crew, without remote control crew, neutralize targets without crew, and return to base without crew. This is an automated terminator vehicle capable of speeds of 80 kph.

The main thing here is the revival of the conception of a heavy tank. That means well armored and good weapon.

The other new thing is full automation, two crew, obviously pilot, obviously co pilot. The ability to operate without the crew, and without remotely station crew.

'Afghanit' is a key word. It could mean absolutely anything. Vehicle weight means it does not mean uranium armor. Most likely it is a composite armor of some sort that is at least equivalent if not better than the 20 year old Abrams uranium armor.

This is all that we know so far about T14.

Correction, the tank has 2 or 3 crew. The first experimental party is going through its pases, and there they will decide how many crew. The driver, the gunner, the commander, but since this thing is automated they might combine gunner and commander. Also not too clear on target identification, one thing for certain it can return to base unmanned, and do pre programmed unmanned missions, but totally autonymous, idetifying targets based on its sensors? That sounds scary.
