Get off the computer & live your life– Overanalysis Paralysis and Mental Masturbation
There’s a somewhat popular thread in the “Archive Section” called the “Masturbation Discussion” which focuses on the benefits (if any) of refraining from masturbation.
That’s all well and good, but there is much stronger and more dangerous force at play which you may very well be succumbing to…Mental masturbation.
This is the act of putting off activities you know you need to do in order to improve your life, instead sitting on the computer learning new and interesting things about how to interact with women, while all the time deluding yourself that you are actually improving.
Intimately tied up in this condition is Overanalysis Paralysis, the action of continually asking advice from strangers over the internet about things that a real man would be able to figure out for himself without giving a d@mn.
Have you ever checked how much time you spend on the computer? If not, download a free tracking program on the web and monitor in a week how long you spend on the computer, how long you spend on So Suave, how long you spend looking at porn (hopefully none!), Facebook etc etc
You may very well be surprised how much it is.
And then ask yourself two questions:
1) “Is it necessary for me to spend this much time on the computer / So Suave?
2) “What could I be doing with my time that is more useful to me in becoming a better man?”
Answers are:
1) No.
2) Heaps of things!!!
I’ve been out of action for 5 weeks with a broken upper arm, and I’ve noticed this tendency creeping up on me, especially since I need to spend more time doing non-active stuff (like the computer) to help rest my arm.
But no more! So Suave is a good resource, but be honest with yourself how much time you really need to spend on here.
For me, I’ve decided once a week on Sunday night unless I post in my Broken Arm Recovery Journal is enough for me. Any more and I am wasting time on here that I could better put into living my life.
Ultimately, all self-improvement is achieved by taking action in the real world.
You can learn good stuff on here, but unless you get out and apply it in the real world, it is all for nothing.
Stop overanalysing everything that goes on in your life to do with women, instead take action as you see fit (keeping in mind what you have learnt) and learn from mistakes as you make them.
A life spent making mistakes is better than a life doing nothing. That is the only way to truly live.
Good luck!
And remember the following:
1) Have options and never give a d@mn about any one girl until she has proven herself worthy.
2) Be indifferent – whoever cares least controls the relationship.
3) What a girl says is meaningless, actions are everything.
4) If a girl is attracted to you, she’ll get physically intimate with you. If not, she won’t.
5) Always work to be the best man you can be, not for anyone but for yourself.
I’m out.
