Got invited to a New Year's Eve Party.....should I do this?

As per my previous thread about moving on from my breakup Link, I am continuing to move on and was invited to a New Year's Eve party by a girl who I've enjoyed a mutual attraction to for the past few months. She's from out of town and invited me to a party in Orlando (I live in Miami) that her family is throwing.

The only rub is that I work on Monday, so would have to drive up (~2.5 hours) to go to the party after work. I was thinking of making it a treat for myself and renting a nice car (my '95 wrangler with the soft top is pretty rough on the highway) and going on up, but I'm not sure if it makes me look desperate or not. I mean, it would probably be "worth it" from the sense that I'm pretty sure she wants to hook up, but I really only know this girl a little bit. I'm comfortable in most situations and think that I'd be fine. She sent me an email saying "oh, I know you probably have plans, but I'll be in Orlando on NYE and was just extending the invitation to you...even though you probably have plans." Then she mentioned something about a hot tub as well.

What do you guys think? The main point of interest really isn't even the girl, it's the fact that that I found that I could rent a Benz C230 for less then a Maxima, which would be fun to drive (I've never driven a Benz, I know a C230 isn't great, but I thought it would be fun).

She's inviting you, so, yeah, I'd take her up on it. At worst, it's a party, at medium worst who knows who else you may meet there. As long as your focus isn't hooking up with her, IOW, not attached to the outcome, I don't see how this is a bad thing. I only have one question: can you get me invited too, ha, ha, ha.

Yeah, my bday is 12/30 so renting the car and driving up is sorta my present to myself. Doesn't really really matter what happens with the girl, she lives in DC and I live in Miami. We run into each other maybe once, twice a year.

I've done the same sort of thing. Had fun. No regrets.

i wouldn't go. i mean, what if she puts flour in her butt and then farts on your face while you're having sex.

i mean dude, do you really want to risk that?

but seriously, go if you want to, dont go if you dont want to. its really quite simple.

rule of thumb in these situations, if you can't make up your mind better to do it and risk not having a good time than not do it and regret it.

thanks guys, i'm going. she's a pretty cool chick....most are until you get serious with them anyway. i rented the benz and take off right after work at 6, try to make it to orlando by 9:30. Shouldn't be terribly hard. if nothing happens, nothing happens. it's ~$175 down the drain for the car, tolls and a bottle of booze for the party. whatever. not like i had plans anyway.

she seems excited. if nothing else, it's and adventure. she reminded me to bring my swim trunks for the hot tub. its a family gathering, so it'll probably be PG, but hey, all it is is laying the foundation for other "adventures" with her if i'm ever in her neck of the woods.

try to bang her mom.

Drive safely and take a condom with you.

LOL. Already thought about it. To be honest, I don't expect to get laid. I'm going to a family party with cousins and whatnot. I'm just going to relax, enjoy the car and have fun with some new people. I'm not even sure where I'm sleeping. Worst comes to worst, I'll just get a hotel myself....I'm going more or less to lay groundwork for a future encounter. I won't be disappointed at all if I don't get laid.

This is great advise.

If you bang the mom, this chick will get jealous and have to "one-up" the competition (her mom). Great way to increase attraction.

Only attempt this is the mom's hot though. You are young, you don't need any unnecessary battle scars.

What a set up.

Maybe you won't get lucky and so be it.

BUT, don't do what I did in the past:
ASSUME you won't get lucky and then have the pieces fall together fulfilling your prophecy.

In a very casual low-key way, put your ducks in place, I mean, go with the flow and be spontaneous but do everything you can to isolate yourself with her- meaning be just out of range of family so you can make your moves. Having family around the corner will make it hotter if she's worth her salt.

AND make your sleeping arrangements in such a way that you're accessible and she's accessible.

Best case scenario, you've isolated her, escalated, stoked the furnace, and she's primed for an after hours "social" visit.

Maybe save the HOT TUB for after hours. Slam dunk.

Already thought about my setup for when the clock strikes midnight. She mentioned her family having some fireworks, already thought about a setup for "viewing" that. Already thought about feeling out my sleeping arrangement but making it clear that I'm cool going down the road to a hotel (not her immediate family I have come to learn...mostly aunts, uncles, cousins and their respective friends).

Thanks for the advice on the self-fulfilling prophecy idea though. That is something I will definitely keep in mind! Thanks man!
