Sony only brought around 400K units to the US, meaning most stores only had 8-20 of them to sell on Friday morning. Whatever sold out at the stores was the supply currently in the US, so you can't buy any of them at stores any more (until after Christmas). That's why people are going crazy buying them on eBay.
I tried to wait in line, but the people in my town were already camped out on Wednesday afternoon. I don't know about any being sold for over a few grand...that million-dollar story is a bunch of BS...show me a real source. I've been all over the PS3 thing since last year.
Anyhow, the WII was a different story. I got in line for it, but after 3hrs I ended up selling my spot to someone else for $70. I figured it's more worth it than to sleep over night, get the WII, post it on eBay, pay all the fees, ship it, etc...probably after all that you wouldn't even make $70. I looked on eBay Sunday morning, and there were 8500 WII systems up for sale.
The Friday morning when PS3s came out, there were 25000 up for sale. Considering 400K units came to the US, that's not a big percentage of the total systems sold.
So anyway, yeah...who cares. Stuff like this are a good opportunity to make some cash, but I don't really care about the games themselves...I can wait a couple months and buy them much cheaper anyway.
