Imagine that. Gas hits $5 a gallon, then $6 and pretty much killing the united states of america as we know it. We know it will happen it is just a matter of time as you only have to pass by the gas station to see prices rise and rise.

I guess it hasn't sunk in to most people how serious a danger we are. Sure people can still make it with gas at what it is now, but $5+ a gallon? that is just insane.

Here is an idea. If you can afford gas now driving a big ass gas guzzling SUV, trade it in for a reasonable car that probably burns half as much gas.

Then when the price doubles, you're still fine.

One has to wonder what will happen to all the suvs when gas hits the $5 mark and higher.

It doesn't matter how good-looking you are, how romantic you are, how funny you are... or anything else. If she doesn't have something INVESTED in you and the relationship, preferably quite a LOT invested, she'll dump you, without even the slightest hesitation, as soon as someone a little more "interesting" comes along.

Oh noes us poor Americans paying 5$ for a gallon!!!!!111

Over here in the UK it's almost double that. PLUS, the workers from the refinery five minutes from my house are going on strike. The result? A petrol crisis, with prices already at £1.20 for a litre of diesel.

**** sake.

No your not still fine. No matter how many MPG your car has, its going to be expensive as s*** either way.

And the UK actually has legitimate PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION so you don't even need a fvcking car.

I live in atlanta georgia and all we have is MARTA. You can't even comprehend how bad it is. It gets you nowhere, plus 50% of the people who use it are likely to stab you for the hell of it.

We HAVE to use a car in atlanta. I can't fvcking date if either me or the girl doesn't have a car.

Sure, in places such as New York, it doesn't affect them so much, but these gas prices are a death sentence for us atlanta boys.

Oh it will be expensive, but many people can still make it a LOT easier on themselves by realizing 300 HP is not necessary to get groceries.

In the end you guys will learn to cope and adapt. Up here our public transit is also ****, and gas is already pretty close to $5 a gallon. Life goes on.

The part that really boils me is we are a net exporter of oil, but you guys pay less for our oil than we do here.

I just got back from driving 320 hp to go get groceries. But the hp comes from a turbocharged 3.0L engine and especially the way I kept the rpms low to stay off using the turbos, babying the car, I probably got 25 mpg. That's double what a V8 Mustang, Camaro or GTO is going to get, or at least most of them, and my car is just as fast if not faster. A typical 100 hp econobox only gets a little over 30 mpg. Especially when turbocharging smaller displacement engines, high peak hp capabilities do not have to mean bad gas mileage. There are other, newer technologies like cylinder management and better fuel injection that help make affordable power, in addition to turbocharging, but I hope technology can keep producing 300-500hp sports cars that people can still afford to drive.

Here is the difference...you have a VERY small country in comparison to ours. Our nation relies heavily of moving goods via rail and trucks from coast to coast. So...the high prices ALSO go into food and other needs.

Another difference is that your economy is already designed to factor the prize of petroleum. Ours is not. Our domestic airlines NEVER designed their planes to sustain high prices of jet fuel. Furthermore, our health system is considerably more expensive than yours.

1- You are a NET exporter of refined petroleum and crude
2- You don't have a big population and your consumption of petroleum is very low in comparison to the U.S. and other nations
3- You can afford the $$$ because your health system is not as expensive as ours
4- Do to the small size of your populations...you don't consume as many goods (food, etc.) as the U.S.

There is no adaption, like Atlanta, many cities have been designed for cars as the SOLE source of transportation. I live 15 minutes away from my school. There is NO public transportation at all, only 1/4 of the whole road has sidewalks, and biking to school would take over an hour, making it impossible. There is no ability for other transportation, everything is spaced out. It's a 5 minute drive with NO TRAFFIC just to get to a source of food. No efforts had been made for public transportation.

When gas prices get high enough, there won't be a way to "cope" with it. Lower to middle class families are going to suffer an unreasonable amount.

Unless they find some alternate source of fuel which can be used with cars, our society in georgia is going to collapse.

Also, having a car and being able to drive is almost as important as social proof is to high school girls in georgia. I've had girls stop communicating with me JUST because I couldn't drive.

It's not just the price of gas, the price of EVERYTHING goes up because oil is involved in producing and transporting EVERYTHING we consume.

I work 75 miles from my house and I drive that far each way...by myself, and I'm telling ya.... I don't know what the hell I'm gonna do about it..
I don't want to move down there... I like my house and where I live...I'm not moving.

This gas thing is really starting to scare the SH!t out of me.. Poor single moms that work stupid little jobs will have to spend most of their weekly checks on friggin gas... Oh and SUV drivers?.. I'll give them the finger.....dumb asses..

I really hope this situation is resolved, but it's getting bad....so much going on...so much waste and poverty..... I honestly do not see the human race surving in another 500 to 1,000 years..

I'm just so happy and thankful my car runs 400 miles per gallon of water.

Just truly satisfied that I'm free from the chains of the world's system of energy, and the bush/clinton and reagan wars and manufactured conflicts of middle eastern oil.

I just find it funny that Americans complain about fuel prices while they cruise around in their v8s and think that 25mpg is good and economical cars achieve 35mpg.

My car gets 60mpg combined.

Public transit in Toronto isn't that bad. Ofcourse right now they are on strike, but besides that TO has a decent PT.

I think its good that the gas prices are rising. Will force more people to use PT, atleast in Canada.

I drive a 4-cylinder, moron, and still have to pay through the ass. And I wouldn't have to if public transportation here weren't complete sh1t. Or for that matter if our government weren't so completely corrupt as to stifle transportation technology innovation just so they and their oil buddies can make another buck.

I'm probably never going to live in the suburbs or mid-sized city ever again, at least in the states.
